A Facelift for Your Baton Rouge Home: Top 5 Colors for 2020

Colors play a crucial role in design and aesthetics. They can contrast, or they can complement; they can catch the eye, or they can be subtle and disguise. Colors also provide an outlet for us to display our personalities. From the colors of your car and clothes to the colors of your favorite team, the tones, hues, shades, and tints that you display offer instant insight into who you are. The same is true for your home. Color schemes and pallets accentuate and enhance your design choices. This goes for everything from your walls and cabinets to your furniture and accessories. Adding a splash of color, or completely changing the canvas of your home can be a simple and highly effective way to give your home a facelift. But, what colors? Sometimes the best colors may be the ones you haven’t thought about. Here are a few to consider.

Navy Blue for Interior Walls

For 2020, Sherwin-Williams has named Naval as its color of the year. Navy blue continues to grow in popularity by offering a timeless shade, redolent of the evening sky. Dark blues pair perfectly with lighter tones like champagne. These combinations offer a cozy feeling. Navy blue is perfect for your living room and can create an exquisite accent wall.

Olive Green for Interior or Exterior Walls

Shades of green began to trend last year, and that will continue into 2020. Olive green specifically will be a popular tone. Its natural look can be used on interior and exterior walls, creating a serene atmosphere.

Dark Red Interior Accent Walls

Cavern Clay was Sherwin-Williams’ color of the year in 2019, and different shades of dark red are expected to remain popular going forward. Dark reds can be used as accents or the predominant color. They create warmth and air of sophistication in any space.

Golden Yellow Accent Walls

If bright, optimistic happiness is the mood you’d like to create, this is that color. However, too much of a good thing can have the opposite effect. Yellows are typically used as an accent color and can provide an immediate touch of brightness. Golden yellow is the evolution of Gen-Z yellow, which was popular in 2019. It offers a more subdued yellow that works well in nurseries, bedrooms, offices, and living rooms.

Charcoal Paint for Intimate Spaces

A trend of dark colors continues with charcoal. Charcoal creates an intimate and smart environment in any room. This color adds depth and space when paired with other shades of gray.

If the time has come to freshen up the aesthetics of your home, it’s hard to argue with these colors. The expert design team at Acadian House Design and Renovation is here to help you find the perfect combinations and styles for your home.
