Are you looking for creative ways to upgrade your home without the time and expense of a major renovation? Our highly-qualified, experienced design team has put together a few small changes you can make for a powerful and immediate impact in your home's aesthetic. No matter the room you are considering changing, these insights can help you bring a big wow factor to any space!
If your fireplace is dark and outdated, brighten and modernize it using clean, neutral paint colors. If the surround of your fireplace reaches the ceiling, continue the color to the crown molding above it to add height and prevent a choppy feel. You will not only make your space feel lighter and more open, you will draw the eye upward and make the room seem taller as well.
Replacing uniform, built-in shelving with adjustable alternatives keeps the space varied and visually appealing. Rather than only displaying what fits your current shelf height, you can adjust as needed to display what you truly love. For the most visually appealing display, our design team prefers layering or grouping different types of items together, such as adding picture frames on top of stacked books.
If you have a particularly small space such as a powder bath that you want to appear biggr, give dark colors a try. Although it may feel counterintuitive to use a very deep blue or gray in such a small setting, these shades can actually make cramped spaces feel larger than they are.
Replacing cabinet knobs and pulls, whether in the kitchen or in the bathroom, is a great way to quickly modernize your space. For a true transformation, pair this change with freshly painted cabinets. Grays and whites are great, neutral shades that can make the room feel larger and brighter. They will also give you greater freedom in the hardware you are able to select.
Mudrooms don't have to be actual rooms. Instead, you can easily transform a small alcove or available closet space by adding elements such as hooks, shelving, baskets, or even a small bench seat. Suddenly, what once was empty wall space or clutter has transformed into a functioning space to catch all those items that tend to get dropped when entering the door.
