Home offices have become a necessity in our everyday lives and careers. Whether you are working from home full time or just need a space to process your personal finances, having a room devoted to your home office makes everyday life a bit easier to manage.
Every home seems to have that one room that ends up used for storage or junk you don’t know what to do with. Take the time to declutter that space and turn it into a functional office! Not only is it therapeutic to get rid of the clutter, but you’ve now given yourself extra space to work and can take back the dining room or breakfast bar you’ve been invading.
If you don’t have an extra room to fully dedicate to a home office, seek out a quiet corner where you can put your office necessities. Wall desks that fold away can give you a dedicated workspace by day and be folded out of sight by night, allowing you to get the most out of your home office space. You can even convert a closet to an office that can be closed at the end of the workday.
Wall color in your home office can be just as important as the furniture and décor. Different colors are known for having distinct effects on our moods and emotions. Warm colors like yellows, oranges, and pinks, are known to bring feelings of happiness. Bright and fluorescent colors are energizing but should be used in moderation to not become hard on the eyes. Blue and green can be calming, and purple inspires creativity. Think about what you want to accomplish in your home office and let that be your guide.
One of the most essential features in a home office is the lighting. Between reading emails, looking at the computer screen, and all the other obstacles we put in their path throughout the workday, our eyes work hard for us and sometimes pay the price. Proper lighting can reduce eye strain and the headaches that come along with it. Bright overhead lights can create harsh lighting environments that can be exhausting on your eyes and mind throughout the day. If you can use natural light in your office, go for it! The natural light will not only brighten the room but also brighten your mood! If you don’t have natural light, try to illuminate your space with lamps with shades or task lights on your desk. These types of lights provide great opportunities to incorporate some additional style into your lighting choices. Be mindful of your lighting placement as well. Dark shadows can cause eyestrain just as much as bright lights.
