Storm and Flood Damage Remodeling: The Importance of an Experienced Renovation Partner

Unfortunately, hurricanes, flooding, and storm damage are not to be unexpected in south Louisiana and along the gulf coast.  For Acadian House Design + Renovation’s Director of Operations, Jenna Jackson, this reality didn’t just hit close to home, it directly impacted her family in August of 2021 when Hurricane Ida left her mark on the Baton Rouge area.

When water breached her family’s home from her son’s bedroom, which is upstairs above the kitchen, it began to infiltrate the kitchen and the home’s infrastructure around it. Due to the quick thinking, experience, and insight of Acadian House, along with the diligence of the Jacksons, they were able to minimize the damage by responsibly and safely mitigating any insurance issues, and lay the foundation for a natural disaster-influenced kitchen facelift.

“Water began to trickle down from my son’s upstairs bedroom and started to come through the walls in the kitchen,” remembers Jenna. Fortunately, she was able to FaceTime with Acadian House Design + Renovation owner, Angela Poirrier. “Angela was very specific and told us exactly what to tear down, and how much to leave to avoid any problems with the insurance company.” Due to this quick action and expertise, there was no development of mold.

Once the roads cleared Angela was able to personally come and take a closer look at the damage. When Angela was able to actually lay eyes on the damage, the Jacksons were able to remove more of the drywall, creating an even better result. “Acadian House made sure that everything was done correctly, and the insurance adjuster was actually impressed with their knowledge and the work that was done.”

While it took several months for the Jacksons’ insurance claim to be processed, the team at Acadian House created plans for a best case, worst case, and in between case scenario. In the meantime, Jenna was able to make selections for her kitchen’s facelift renovation, which would include new drywall, paint, backsplash, countertops, and hardware.

Due to Acadian’s quick response and guidance, we were able to take a bad situation and make it better,” remarks Jenna.
