Our two home makeovers are in the final stretch. Here's the skinny on the Woodstone House.

The House

Purchasing a home to renovate from the inside out can easily be overwhelming. "There are just so many options out there and for a house this size, it's easy to lose track of the big picture," said homeowner Rebecca Simoneaux.
Rebecca and her husband Todd purchased a modern style house in the north Highland Road neighborhood of Woodstone. The 1984, 3,600 square-foot house was occupied by four fraternity guys at the time the couple purchased the home. “Those guys probably thought I was crazy to buy it but I had a concept for it and knew it could be done,” shared Todd.

Rebecca called upon her in-laws, who own and run Acadian House Design + Renovation, to coordinate the renovation for her family. Considering the expansive amount of work that would be necessary for a home of this square-footage, it was decided to tackle the renovation in two phases.

“Knowing there was someone there to keep us on track for style, budget and keep us focused on the overall look, feel and function, helped to keep my mind at ease through the process,” added Rebecca. “Because of the size of the house and the project, this simply would have been too much for myself.”

The Style

Although the Woodstone house is nestled amongst traditional homes, it has a distinctive contemporary design in architecture. Acadian House worked with the homeowners to focus the design vision on a clean, classic contemporary space that compliments the structure and flow of the home.

The overall feel features sleek, modern materials mixed with natural finishes to create the look. In the kitchen, the contrast of high-polished white cabinets, white quartz countertops and white tile with honey walnut cabinets and paired with high-end stainless steel appliances adds to the contemporary feel without feeling stark. This same color scheme continues in the bar, which includes a beverage refrigerator and Miele Coffee System. The same walnut cabinets are used in the pantry but with large format black subway tiles.

The Selections

Acadian House worked with the homeowners to pull product and material selections that would fit their specific needs and functions for each individual space.

Since the Woodstone project has a contemporary architecture, the products and materials selected help keep the modern feel. For example, the structurally striking waterfall island was created with Silestone’s White Zeus quartz. The same material runs throughout the home on all countertops, carrying its contemporary vibe with it. This material is scratch, stain, and acid resistant and comes with a genuine 25-year transferable warranty.

The Simoneauxs chose to implement contrasting colors with the upper cabinets featuring Ultracraft South Beach cabinets in Powder. The lower cabinet door style is Tarin in a natural honey walnut. The cabinets are accented with Top Knobs polished chrome Europa tab pulls. The full-access cabinet style was selected because it offers up to 15 percent more usable space than cabinets with framed construction. The kitchen was completed with a 4 x 16 Artic White subway tile backsplash from Florida Tile.

The Reveal

You can be a part of the reveal! This Sunday, March 20th from 12 to 4 p.m., the Simoneaux family will open their home to the public for the opportunity to see the completed first phase of this whole-home renovation.
