Our second makeover house is in Live Oaks Estates and is the home of an Acadian House designer.

The House

For this project we had a bit of a role reversal. Our Acadian House Design + Renovation designer, Monica Broggi, and her family became the homeowner and client. "It's quite the role reversal to be in the client's position, making selections for my home and my family instead of someone else's," Monica shared. With the help of her co-workers, Monica began tackling the project step-by-step. "A lot of the work is aesthetic, but we are making some functional changes as well."

Monica and her husband purchased the four bedroom and two and half bathroom home that was built 26 years ago. The 2,600 square-foot residence will be home to the family of four.

After selling their home, the Broggi’s moved in with Monica’s parents as they began the search for a fixer-upper. After a few months of searching they found a home located down Highland Road in the stately neighborhood of Live Oak Estates.

The Style

On the outside of the Live Oak Estates home it appears to be your standard South Louisiana home- a transitional twist on French Country. The inside of the home transitioned from wallpaper overload and brass finishes to a more muted palette. The home now highlights the wide windows and natural light with colors of off-white, gray and faint blue tones with glamorous finishes like polished chrome, brushed nickel and champagne. Traditional flooring like brick and dark wood were also used to contribute the transitional French country style.

The floorplan underwent a few changes before the installation happened to provide better function. The changes included built-in removal, filling in a window and creating another wall for cabinet space.

The Selections

The one element of the original kitchen that stayed is the brick pavers. The Acadian House team gave the floor a deep cleaning to get it to shine again. By incorporating the existing kitchen flooring into the design, the Acadian House team freed up money allotted to removing and replacing the flooring so that Monica could invest it in higher priority products or materials. Plus, the brick is a traditional flooring material in South Louisiana and keeps with the French-Acadian architecture of the home.

When selecting the new products for the home, Monica wanted to focus on a "greige" palette. Think of this color as the perfect blend between grey and beige. The meaning of the word is rooted in old French and Italian words meaning "raw silk”. This palette provides a more spacious and lighter feel in the traditional home.

The wall paint color is Sherwin Williams' City Loft, which pairs well with the kitchen cabinets that are Ultracraft's Lunar Gray. This is the perfect product selection for a family of four since Ultracraft provides the industry’s only 100-Year limited warranty on all of its products. The cabinets are topped with engineered quartz countertops. Silestone's new color, Lusso, isn't just another pretty, low-maintenance solid surface, it is also incredibly durable compared to other natural stone surfaces. To bring in the luxe factor, a white-honed hexagonal backsplash was selected, along with champagne accessories.

The Reveal

You can be a part of the reveal! The Broggi family is opening their home to the public and invites you to see the finished renovation. On Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 12PM-4PM, join the Acadian House team to tour this home.
